DELTA – Police are investigating a motor vehicle incident Wednesday morning in which a Kenworth tractor-trailer struck an overpass in Delta, causing a shutdown of both southbound lanes on Highway 99 as well as the overpass.
According to a statement from BC Highway Patrol spokesperson Sgt. Michael McLaughlin, crews are working to reopen the road and the Ladner Trunk Road overpass on Highway 99 in Delta.
The call came in to police on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 10:39 a.m. Responding officers observed visible damage to the overpass which required a shutdown of both southbound lanes on Highway 99 as well as the Ladner Trunk Road overpass itself.
“We’re working with the BC Ministry of Transportation to ensure that the overpass is safe, and we’re asking drivers to avoid the area because delays will be significant,” Sgt. McLaughlin said. “If you are a witness, and particularly if you have dash-camera video of the events leading up to the collision, please call police.”
The driver of the white Kenworth tractor-trailer stopped at the scene. Police are working with Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) to determine the exact cause of the collision.
