AGASSIZ — Agassiz RCMP arrested two drivers following separate incidents involving collisions and suspected impaired driving.
In the first incident, police responded to reports of a vehicle that had struck a utility pole near Highway 9 and Morrow Road.
Officers found the driver asleep behind the wheel and observed drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
After being awakened, the man attempted to leave the scene but was stopped by officers. He was arrested for impaired operation and obstruction.
Further investigation revealed outstanding warrants from another Lower Mainland jurisdiction.
The driver was unlicensed and received an indefinite driving prohibition. His vehicle was also impounded.
In a separate incident, police responded to reports of a truck that had struck a cement barrier near Highway 9 and was attempting to leave the area.
Additional callers reported sparks coming from the vehicle’s tires as it continued driving.
Officers located the truck near the Rosedale Bridge and identified the sole occupant as the driver.
Following observations consistent with impairment, officers demanded a roadside breath sample. The driver refused to provide one and was arrested.
An Immediate Roadside Prohibition was issued, and the vehicle was impounded.
