CHILLIWACK – Construction is set to begin today on a $70,000 artwork project featuring a salmon in motion at the Lickman Road roundabout in Chilliwack.
According to its website and social media channel, the City of Chilliwack says the construction window will begin today, Wednesday, October 21 and continue through to Friday, November 27.
In December 2025, a request for proposals (RFP) for public art at the Lickman roundabout closed. The project was budgeted for $70,000. The RFP didn’t specify a specific design so that a broad range of creative responses could be generated.

Nine proposed renditions were received. Once an evaluation process was conducted in two stages, technical components of the submissions were reviewed and scored by staff from parks, recreation and culture and from the engineering department, the city said.
The Public Art Advisory Committee was responsible for assessing artistic merit, including aesthetics and the artists’ previous work. At its March 20, 2026 meeting, each proponent presented their concept to the committee and responded to questions prior to the final scoring. Following the tabulation of all scores, the highest-ranked proposal was “Ripple in Time” by BESPOKE grain artist Jesse Reimer and J. Neufeld of Wood Anchor.
The artwork will feature a sculpture inspired by salmon in motion, demonstrating resilience, return, and connection to place, the city says.
