MISSION – Police in Mission say they seized a large duffel bag full of prohibited and restricted firearms from inside a vehicle after they initiated a traffic stop on Lougheed Highway last week for what RCMP allege was suspicious behaviour from two men.
According to a statement from RCMP spokesperson Corporal Harrison Mohr, an officer with Mission RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit pulled over a vehicle last Wednesday afternoon, October 14, after witnessing suspicious behaviour from the pair.
Police say the vehicle was occupied by two men in their early 20s who were from the Cariboo area of B.C.
Corporal Mohr says they couldn’t explain to police why they were in Mission, or where they were headed, and told police they didn’t know what was in a large duffel bag in the back of the vehicle.
As police continued to investigate, they discovered that the bag was actually full of both prohibited and restricted firearms.
Both men were arrested for related firearms offences, but were later released pending further investigation, Corporal Mohr said. Their names were not released.
The firearms were seized, as well as other items in the bag that may have been stolen during a break and enter.
The investigation is ongoing.
Anyone who recognizes any of these firearms, or has further information about this matter, is encouraged to contact the Mission RCMP detachment at 604-826-7161 and quote file 2026-13571.
