ABBOTSFORD – Police in Abbotsford now say a dump truck driver who was depicted on video passing a school bus in Abbotsford while its warning lights were activated has been located and fined.
According to a statement from the Abbotsford Police Department, a video circulated on social media last week showing a dump truck passing a stopped school bus on Lefeuvre Road while the bus’s red warning lights were activated and its stop signs were deployed.
Police say the incident generated significant public concern and discussion online. In response, AbbyPD’s Traffic Enforcement Unit launched an investigation and worked closely with the Abbotsford School District to obtain and review video footage from the school bus.
As a result of its investigative measures, officers were able to identify the dump truck involved and issue a violation ticket for failing to stop for a school bus, an offence carrying a $368 fine.
“The safety of children travelling to and from school remains a priority for AbbyPD. Motorists are reminded that when a school bus has its red lights flashing and stop signs deployed, they are legally required to stop,” AbbyPD said.
