NORTH SAANICH — The provincial government says a historic water bomber will be the centerpiece of a new wildfire aviation exhibit the British Columbia Aviation Museum in North Saanich.
The province says it’s offering the museum $250 thousand to protect and preserve the Hawaii Martin Mars water bomber.
It says the aircraft was a transport carrier for the United States Navy and served as the largest air ambulance during the Korean War until it was converted in 1958.
The tourism ministry says the plane was last deployed during the summer of 2015 to extinguish wildfires in B.C., California, Mexico and Alberta, ending five decades of service in the province.
