Prison staff initiate massive contraband seizure in excess of $100K at Agassiz prison
AGASSIZ — Correctional staff at a max-security prison in Agassiz deserve a tip of the hat for their role in intercepting over $100,000 worth of contraband.
According to a news release from Correctional Service Canada dated Thursday, February 7, over $100,000 worth of contraband and illicit items was confiscated at Kent Institution earlier this week, thanks to the vigilant efforts of staff.
The items seized included cell phones, SD cards, an SD card reader, cannabis concentrate, handmade weapons and a drone. The total estimated institutional value of these seizures is $124,600. The seizure occurred on Monday, February 4.
CSC says police have been notified and the institution is investigating.
Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) employs a number of tools to prevent drugs from entering its institutions, including ion scanners and drug-detector dogs, to search buildings, personal property, inmates, and visitors.
