The Chiefs were back on home ice Friday night for the first time in over a month, kicking off their six-game homestand with a game against the Langley Rivermen.
It was The Great Outdoors night at the Chilliwack Coliseum, presented by Greater Vancouver Powersports, as the Chiefs and Rivermen faced off for the second time this season. The game also saw the return of the fan favourite bazooka gun, this time with a twist, as it was shot from the back of the units GVP brought out onto the ice.
Adam Boatter opened the scoring for the Chiefs in the first after a nice setup by Justin Dumais, as Boatter was on the doorstep. Just under two minutes later, the Rivermen got one of their own on the power play to tie it up, before taking the lead sixteen seconds later.
Chilliwack had the opportunity to tie it up in the second when they found themselves on a four-minute power play, however, they couldn’t put one home. Langley got the better of the middle frame when they scored their third of the game to increase their lead to two.
The Chiefs power play got to work in the third frame to get back within one after Luke Pilkington scored his first of the season just 10 seconds into the man advantage. Langley kept their foot on the gas, taking their two-goal lead back before Kristers Obuks got one of his own and sparked some life back into the building. Despite the Chiefs best efforts to tie the game and force overtime, an empty-net goal by the Rivermen in the final 20 seconds sealed Langley’s win.
The homestand continues tomorrow at 6 pm as the Chiefs welcome the Surrey Eagles for their Remembrance Day game. Retirement Concepts will be in the building with some of their seniors, plus a fun parachute cookie drop during the first intermission.
