CP NewsAlert: Data centre bus involved in B.C. crash that triggered Code Orange
MACKENZIE — A multinational data centre company says a bus chartered by one of its contractors was in a crash that has triggered a Code Orange declaration involving multiple victims near Mackenzie, B.C.
A spokesperson for IREN says the crash happened south of the remote northern B.C. community, where the firm has a 4.5-hectare data centre.
Mackenzie RCMP officers, BC Emergency Health Services, and Fire Rescue attended earlier today. Multiple ambulances have been requested, and an air ambulance has been tasked to assist.
Highway maintenance personnel are assisting with traffic management, and RCMP collision analysts have been requested to attend the scene.
At this early stage of the investigation, limited details are available.
Highway 39 south of Mackenzie is expected to remain closed for several hours while emergency personnel provide medical care and investigators examine the scene. There are currently no alternate routes around the closure.
“We ask the public to avoid the area and allow emergency personnel the space they need to safely respond to this incident,” says Cpl. Brett Urano, RCMP spokesperson. “Drivers should expect significant delays and are encouraged to check DriveBC before travelling.”
More coming.
