CHILLIWACK – A spokesperson for the BC Highway Patrol says a bear was killed Tuesday morning after it was struck by two vehicles on Hwy. 1 in Chilliwack.

BC Highway Patrol spokesperson Sgt. Michael McLaughlin says BCHP officers responded at 7:20 a.m. Tuesday morning (Nov. 3) for a reported collision on eastbound Hwy. 1 near Annis Road (Exit 129).

He says two vehicles struck and killed a bear as it was attempting to cross the highway.

Both vehicles were significantly damaged but there were no apparent injuries to occupants of either vehicle.

Sgt. McLaughlin says there was no evidence to support criminal or BC Motor Vehicle Act charges against either driver.

At 7:05 a.m. Tuesday morning, DriveBC reported that an eastbound police incident had the left lane of Hwy. 1 blocked east of Annis Road. Motorists were advised to slow down and pass with caution while traffic control personnel attended.
