CHILLIWACK – Chilliwack Mayor-elect Jason Lum issued a statement of congratulations to Chilliwack’s two incumbent MLAs who won re-election Saturday night, pledging to work with them as their party forms B.C.’s next government.
Heather Maahs won her Chilliwack North riding with 59 per cent of the vote, while Á’a:líya Warbus received 60 per cent of the vote in the Chilliwack-Cultus Lake riding. Their Conservative party is projected to win 62 seats as of Sunday morning, well above the 47 seats needed to form the next government.
Lum, who won Chilliwack’s mayoral race in a resounding landslide on Oct. 17 with 82 per cent of the vote, graciously thanked the candidates who weren’t successful as well as outgoing NDP Leader David Eby.
“Congratulations to, Á’a:líya Warbus, and Heather Maahs on your election victory tonight!” Lum wrote. “Thank you to Kelli Paddon, Adila Shaukat and Dan Grice — for putting your names forward in today’s provincial election. Congratulations to Premier-elect Lorne Doerkson and the incoming government, and thank you to outgoing Premier David Eby and the NDP for their service. As Mayor-elect, I look forward to working with our provincial representatives to deliver results for Chilliwack.”
In his social media post, Lum addressed a healthcare matter that surfaced during a recent media event in which he appeared alongside NDP candidate Kelli Paddon, Mayor Ken Popove, and the executive director of the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation. The media event involved a funding pledge to deliver an MRI machine to Chilliwack General Hospital.
“As you heard through the election – improving healthcare, public safety, and addressing affordability are top issues here in Chilliwack,” Lum said. “I’m very pleased that we agree getting shovels in the ground on an MRI at Chilliwack General Hospital and moving forward on the Bradley Centre are also top priorities. Our Council is ready to roll up our sleeves and get to work for Chilliwack!”
