GoFundMe started for second family affected by car crash fire in Chilliwack home

CHILLIWACK — A local resident is asking for help after her family’s home set ablaze in a car crash this week.

On Tuesday, June 16, at around 1:45 a.m., a car flew through Lexi Hamilton’s bedroom wall, nearly hitting her. 

The vehicle then exploded and lit up the rental house, destroying hers and another family’s homes. Alcohol was deemed a factor in that crash.

Hamilton has since retrieved only a couple of salvageable boxes from the site.

“Within moments, my home was destroyed and we lost everything I’ve ever owned,” she wrote in a GoFundMe. “While I am incredibly grateful that we survived, I am now left trying to rebuild our lives from nothing.”

With no employment, the mother of two is now seeking the community’s support to cover the cost of a new rental, clothes and other basic needs after the fire.

The GoFundMe has raised over a third of its $2,600 goal at the time of writing.
