Prest Road closure begins Monday in Chilliwack
CHILLIWACK — Commuters in Chilliwack will face detours and delays as the City prepares for significant infrastructure work on Prest Road. Starting August 26, Prest Road will be fully closed between Bailey Road and McGuire Road until September 11 for underground work, according to a City announcement.
The closure is part of a project to replace an aging culvert that runs beneath Prest Road. The current corrugated steel arch pipes will be removed and replaced with a 3-metre by 2.4-metre concrete box culvert. The upgrade is in preparation for the planned expansion of Prest Road, set to take place in 2025.
To minimize environmental impact, the work is being conducted now to avoid interfering with a salmon run, which passes through the area.
The City has established a detour to assist motorists in navigating the closure. Only local traffic will be allowed access to the area during this period. Drivers are being asked to follow the posted detour signs and follow the instructions of flaggers.
