Valley Huskers bounce back from home loss with resounding road win in Prince George

PRINCE GEORGE — A week after a tough shutout loss to the Okanagan Sun on their home field left them reeling, the Huskers redeemed themselves in a huge way Saturday night.

Quarterback Tyran Duval was 27-of-42 for 387 yards and four touchdowns, and the Huskers defence stifled Prince George with a pair of interceptions and a fumble recovery, en route to a 48-28 road win over the Kodiaks Saturday night (Aug. 10).

“I was impressed with how we handled a tough road trip,” Huskers head coach Bob Reist said. “It was important for us to get back into the win column this week. We were able to control the game with our offensive success. Our defence had chances to get off the field and we need to capitalize on those opportunities. Overall I was impressed with our efforts this week.”

Prince George quarterback Sawyer Thiessen threw a touchdown pass in the first quarter to get the Kodiaks on the board first, before Harb scored with five minutes left in the first quarter to make it 7-7. After a PG field goal lifted the Kodiaks to a 10-7 lead, quarterback Tyran Duval found Peyton Lake in the end zone for a touchdown, giving the Huskers a 14-10 lead with nine minutes to go in the second quarter. Harb barreled into the end zone to make it 21-10 only three minutes later, and Duval connected with Colby Johnson on a scoring reception to give the Huskers a 28-10 lead. PG would counter when Thiessen found Andrew Brown for a touchdown to trim Valley’s lead to only 28-17 going into halftime.

“Credit their quarterback (Sawyer Thiessen),” Reist said. “He was athletic and able to avoid getting sacked and create plays with his feet.”

The second half belonged to the Huskers. Colby Johnson caught his second scoring pass from Duval to extend the Huskers lead to 35-17 in the third quarter. Valley sealed the deal on on another touchdown from Harb with 9:18 left in the fourth quarter, and Dak Mora added an insurance touchdown to make it 48-17 with just over two minutes to go in the game.
