Chilliwack Fire dispatched for fire in a tree near a school Thursday morning

CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack firefighters were called to a small park in Sardis on a rainy Thursday morning (Apr. 25) after a tree somehow caught fire.
Chilliwack firefighters were dispatched to Manuel Park near Sardis Elementary at approximately 10:20 a.m. for the report of glowing red inside a tree in the park, located just south of the school.
Firefighters extinguished the fire within a half hour and subsequently contacted dispatch asking for the City of Chilliwack public works department to respond as the tree was deemed a hazard for the public.
Fire suppressant foam was located behind the tree in a stationary creek inside Manuel Park. There is red tape to indicate the site of the fire, as the tree appears to be hollowed out by the fire.
Chilliwack firefighters told dispatch the tree might need to be cut back or trimmed given the apparent hazard.
