Unity Christian of Chilliwack advances to provincial championship game Saturday in Langley
LANGLEY — The Unity Christian varsity girls basketball team outscored their opponents 13-4 in the pivotal fourth quarter, and UFV-bound Miah Schuurman tallied 36 points as the Flames advanced to the provincial 1A title game with a 49-37 win over Credo Christian of Langley Friday afternoon at the Langley Events Centre.
Schuurman, a 5-foot-11 guard-forward, scored 36 points with a hot shooting hand to lead the Flames in what was a close battle after two quarters. Unity led 28-25 at the half, but pulled away in the fourth quarter.
Unity will play Pacific Christian Saturday (Mar. 2) at 1:45 p.m. at the Langley Events Centre for the 1A championship.
Earlier in the 1A tournament, Unity knocked off Meadowridge 73-27 Wednesday behind 23 points from Schuurman, 11 points from Holly Vermette and 10 points from Kenna Friesen. On Thursday, Unity topped Kelowna Christian 60-33 as Schuurman led the way with 29, followed by Kenna Friesen with 11 points.
Unity entered the tournament as the Eastern Valley conference champs.
